PhD program goes distance mediated

On behalf of the University of Missouri and the Sinclair School of Nursing faculty, I invite you to apply for admission to the PhD program.
My name is Dr. Kay Libbus, director of the graduate studies program, and I want to tell you about the most exhilarating news our program has had since its inception. We have entered the digital age and we are going the distance to recruit you with our new distance mediated PhD program. We want you in our inaugural class that begins in June 2010. This updated program will help you better balance work, family and school. As our program develops we will continue to offer individualized and comprehensive programs of doctoral study to nurses who have a BSN or a MSN degree.
Our goal is to graduate nurse scholars who, as outstanding researchers in their clinical specialty, are prepared to launch productive careers in the academic community, service sector and public policy arena.
We have mentors who match your research interests. Linda Bullock, Greg Alexander or one of our other mentors in one of our six research-interest areas. Use this Web site to learn about their research trajectory online.
Our doctoral faculty members are eager to talk with you about the exciting opportunities we can offer to further develop your research expertise at MU. Visit our campus to learn more about our faculty-student collaboration in research as well as meet other PhD students and all our faculty.
The program requires a minimum of 42 semester hours taken at the University of Missouri and visits to campus for a minimum of one week each summer. For a part-time student (6 hours per semester) the course work will require four years of study until comprehensive examinations, along with the additional time you might require to complete the dissertation research.
We are now taking applications for the distance-mediated program and will make final decisions regarding admission no later than November 2009. We anticipate many applications so we are urging you to get your application in early.
If you would like additional information, please contact Amie Orth, the program’s administrative assistant at (573) 882-0200. We wish you great personal and professional success as you pursue your academic and professional goals; and remember, we have the program to support your goals.
